Olympic family blogs get booming views

(BEIJING, June 14) -- More than 200,000 viewers have hit the Sohu blog page of the families participating in the campaign of "Olympic Families Tour Beijing" since June 4, 2007.

The first phase of the campaign concluded on May 31 when 50 foreign families and an equal number of Chinese families were selected on the basis of the numbers of votes cast by website users. On June 4, the Chinese families opened their blog pages to continue telling their stories and receiving online votes. At the same time, the foreign families started to e-mail their stories, which are then posted on the official website and receive votes.

The page views of the blogs surpassed 200,000 in a period of 10 days and a total of 1.55 million votes were cast. At the moment the "Jiankangaoyun" family (Healthy Olympic Family) tops the Chinese families with 77,789 votes, and the "gotobeijing" family stands first among the foreign families with 69,386 votes.

To push forward the campaign, the organizers launched a new page entitled "the Olympic Planet" on the official website of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games on June 14. The users can view the list of the participating families and get the page of a specific family by clicking on any continent of the globe.

In cooperation with China Mobile, the website (www.beijing2008.cn) launched the campaign on April 9 to make it possible for ten families, five from China and five from the rest of the world, to tour Beijing and some of the co-host cities on the occasion of the one-year countdown to the Beijing Olympic Games.
