(BEIJING, June 14) -- The 83rd meeting the BOCOG Executive board underlined the importance of providing excellent services in the Olympic Villages during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

After listening to a report on the subject, the Board insisted on the need to adjust all services to the needs of the athletes and the media in the Olympic Villages. The services should cover accommodation, catering, transport, entertainment, fitness, medical care, shopping, and security.

BOCOG has already completed the general plan for the operation of the Olympic and Paralympic Villages, with detailed schemes for specific service equipments. It also has worked out the criteria for the decoration and fit-up of the Villages and their material allocations. The decoration of the model apartments is finished; the schemes for the creation of the operation teams and the plan for the Village's workforce have also been drawn up. BOCOG is now working closely with government agencies to ensure the integration of the task with their routine operations.

The meeting also listened to a report on the matters related to the image and look of the 2008 Olympics and Paralympics. The Board stressed that the image and look should embody the concepts of the Olympics and create an enthusiastic, joyful and harmonious atmosphere to ensure high level Olympic Games with distinguishing features and to display the image of the nation successfully. The meeting requested that the master plan of the Olympic and Paralympic image and look should be guided by the concept of scientific development and the principle of frugality, urban-rural harmony and coordinated arrangement between venue and city operations.

The meeting also discussed the plans for the cultural activities in the Olympic Villages and the Olympic Green, where 10 out of the 31 Beijing-based competition venues are located. The activities should be held in a festive atmosphere to display the multi-ethnic characteristics of China and the international styles, and to promote the understanding and friendship between the athletes and peoples of the world.

The meeting was chaired by BOCOG (Beijing organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad) President Liu Qi, who is also member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and secretary of Beijing Municipal CPC Committee.
