ANKARA, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian football star Roberto Carlos on Tuesday signed the official two-year contract with Turkish league champion Fenerbahce football club, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.

The signing ceremony took place at Fenerbahce's home ground Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Turkish largest city of Istanbul with the participation of Fenerbahce fans.

The 34-year-old defender, having played for Real Madrid for 11 years, took medical in Istanbul's Acibadem Hospital on Tuesday, hours after arriving in Turkey to sign the contract, the report said.

Roberto Carlos was greeted by hundreds of Fenerbahce fans at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport at midnight.

He said after medical that he was very surprised when he saw the crowd at the airport.

"It was really surprising for me to see such interest. A huge crowd greeted me at the airport. I am really happy to be here," Carlos told a Spanish TV channel.
