Nigerian women soccer team becomes best in Africa on FIFA ranking

LAGOS, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's women national team, Falcons, is ranked 24th in the latest FIFA world ranking, local media reported Saturday.

According to press release of the world soccer governing body, the Nigeria's men's soccer team - the Super Eagles is standing at the 32nd and the third in Africa behind Cameroon and Egypt.

The ranking showed that Falcons are the best in Africa, followed by the Black Queens of Ghana team that is ranked 47th.

According to FIFA's Big Count survey in 2006, 26 million women and girls around the world currently play football.

The next FIFA women's world ranking will be issued on October 5, 2007.
